Travel has always been a source of inspiration for me. It may have started with a trip to New York when I was at Art School. I did a series of very large stone Lithographs and a series of very small engravings all New York facades. No people, just the marks we leave behind. These passed few months I’m focusing on watercolor for the first time, and people! It’s taken me 30 years to draw people!

A Cigar Box Ukulele was my son’s instrument of choice on our trip to Italy. He has been quite interested in all things stringed for a few years now. When I saw this oddity at a local garage sale, I new he he would need it. We had our personal troubadour as we explored the streets of Rome and Venice. Such a fun way to interact and meet the locals. It was always the older men that were fascinated and curious about this unusual instrument. My daughter however, was not as impressed by her brother’s endless serenade.

I love tiles, patterns and turquoise blue. I have a growing collection of stencils, I think this is my favorite. A couple really cool things have happened since I started my 100 day project. The first, as I mentioned, I am drawing people (and having so much fun!) The second is playing with this stencil. The two came together as I was waiting for another painting to dry. I added a few more elements of architecture to this one but often the pattern stands alone with a solitary figure. More on that in another post.
