New Art of Seattle’s Beloved Spots: Larsen’s Bakery, Targy’s Tavern & Holiday Commission Openings

After wrapping up my feature show last month at Columbia City Gallery, I've had a chance to dive into a few commissions. One highlight was Larsen’s Bakery—our neighborhood gem, celebrating an incredible 50 years! This bakery has been a constant in my life and my kids’ lives. It’s where we all stopped for after-school treats, ordered every birthday cake, and even got my wedding cake. Creating this piece for a collector felt like honoring a place layered with memories and milestones.

Next up was Targy’s Tavern in Queen Anne—a bit of a challenge to capture! I framed the green facade with fall colors, the quiet sign, and a few urban touches to add depth to the iconic doorway that is Targy’s. The true heart of these places is what happens inside, but as an artist, my role is to bring that feeling to life from the outside. My client was thrilled with the final piece, and I’m happy to announce that both of these paintings are now available as reproductions!

With the holidays just around the corner, it's a perfect time to think about custom artwork for Christmas gifts. A commissioned painting of a favorite spot, a beloved building, or a special memory can make for a meaningful, one-of-a-kind gift. If you’re interested, reach out soon, as I’ll be taking a limited number of holiday commissions. I’ll also be at the Phinneywood Winter Festival again this year, December 8-9, 10 AM to 5 PM, with my paintings of all your favorite Seattle spots.
