Painting Seattle Dive bars, Ice cream bars and Fish Bars…

Growing up in Vancouver BC, I would often visit Seattle with my Canon AE1 program in hand, wander around Pioneer Square, Downtown, Pikes Place and the U-District. Taking pictures and visiting galleries. So many favorites are gone.

I didn’t know then that Seattle would be my forever home and I would still wander the streets with my android phone/camera in hand. A few favorites are still around, but I’m not sure for how long…

5x7 watercolors The LockSpot Cafe, Mike’s Chili - soldout

Its really hard to get a shot of Mike’s without a car parked out front! Mikes is so much fun to paint, I call it my brick painting meditation. Mike’s version 1.0 sold super fast and I had 3 friends wanting it at the same time! It’s one of the few images that I have repainted.

5x7 watercolor The Lockspot Cafe - sold out

The LockSpot has been through lots of changes over the years. I usually paint from my own photos but I had to do a little research to get a shot of the Lock Spot that I had remembered with the Mermaid Mural and the letters on the roof. This was a regular Sunday visit for our family, the kids coloring in a booth, my husband and I shooting pool. My son loved the fish and chips and my daughter loved the Mac’n’cheese, which was definitely the boxed version. I suppose thats what happens when they get homemade at home!

5x7 watercolor The Pacific Inn -sold out

The Pacific Inn is my husband’s favorite for fish and chips. I painted this in the fall, had some fun sketching the kids and their skateboards and getting loose with the fall foliage.

5x7 watercolor Little Coney -sold out

Ahhh, Little Coney…so many memories. We’ve lived in Ballard for over 20 years and I have walked by here a minimum of once a week. Bribing the kids when they were younger, if they rode their bikes, we could stop for ice cream. I left out the inflatable hot dog and cone that are currently in front!

5x7 watercolor The Sloop- sold out

The one and only Sloop Tavern. Seriously a week after I finished this painting the property went up for sale…ughhh…Save the Sloop!
